Dear Colleagues, Scientists, Drug Designers, Entrepreneurs, Bioengineers and Friends,

It gives use genuine pleasure to extend greetings to everyone attending International Conference on Nanotechnology & Materials Science planned to be held in Barcelona, Spain, in September 25-27, 2023.

This monumental event features lots of opportunities to network with partners from the entire World in an exciting environment whilst sensing an explosive burst in Biodesign-related and Translational Research & Applications to make innovative and upgraded strategic alliances to secure our environment to be absolutely clean!

Our goal personally is to open a Forum to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and experience and to invigorate the field with young scientists, researchers, nano-biodesigners and nano-bioengineers, business bio entrepreneurs and specialists in the regulatory affairs. The Conference would secure the attracted participation from many of established leaders as well to open a green light for concentrating focus on generating solutions to the field’s challenges. The latter would propose ways to encourage investment in innovation and stimulate the adoption of upgraded engineering to secure the national and international stability and our daily life.

Barcelona as being the Unique and Grand City in Europe and founding global leadership in giving shape to the historic city has included learning and culture, education and research, healthcare and life science whilst developed innovative ways to re-use and re-invent its assets to preserve and protect the City’s leadership role in the fields of life sciences, medicine and healthcare and much more to be united and consolidated by Hi-Tech.

In this sense, the theme reflects our willingness and enthusiasm to offer a really innovative and imaginative Program whilst offering attractive lectures and sessions with well-balanced inputs from academia, bio pharma industry and regulators. The Conference will provide the ideal forum to stimulate ideas and establish collaborations as well as to initiate intense discussions to secure projects of the newest generations and to feature a highly interactive, stimulating and multidisciplinary Program including workshops, plenary sessions and panel discussions.

I do hope that you will be able to get some glimpses of the greatest Barcelona and hope also that your interaction with your colleagues will stimulate a creative exchange of ideas and will be personally rewarding!

Sergey Suchkov was born in the City of Astrakhan, Russia, in a family of dynasty medical doctors. In 1980, graduated from Astrakhan State Medical University with MD. From 1980 through 1983 has been working as Res Associate, and from 1983 through 1985 as Senior Res Associate at the Inst of Medicical Enzymology, USSR Academy of Medical Sciences. In 1985, maintained his PhD at the Sechenov University. From 1986 through 1989, has been working as Senior Res Associate at the Koltzov Institute of Dev Biology, USSR Academy of Sciences. From 1989 through 1994, was a Director of the Division of Clinical Immunology, Helmholtz Eye Res Institute in Moscow. In 1989-1993, was trained at the NEI, NIH, Bethesda, MD, USA, and Wills Eye Hospital, Philadelphia, PA, USA, as well as at some of the British universities on the invitation of the Royal Society for Immunology. In 1993-1996, was an Executice Secretary-in-Chief of the Editorial Board, Biomedical Science, an int journal published jointly by the USSR Academy of Sciences and the Royal Society of Chemistry, UK. From 1994 through 2006, was a Director (full-time job) of the Division for Clinical Immunology, Vladimiskii Moscow Clinical Research Institute (MONIKI), and The Clinical Immunology Physician-in-Chief (quater-time job) of the Moscow region. In 2002, maintained his Doctor’s Degree at the National Institute of Immunology, Russia. In 1999, was working as a Clinical Immunology Physician (quater-time job) at the “Ehinacea” Clinical Center in Moscow, Russia. From 2006 through 2014, was The First Vice-President (full-time job) of The University of World Politics and Law, Moscow, Russia. From 2000 through 2007, was collaborating with some US and European Healthcare and Pharma companies (half-time job) staying in Moscow, Russia. Dr. Mousa is the founder of the Pharmaceutical Research Institute in 2002 and the founders of spin-off Pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies. He held a senior, principal research scientist and a research fellow at DuPont Pharmaceuticals and Imaging Co., DuPont Merck, and DuPont Pharmaceuticals Company for two decades. He held academic appointments of Adjunct Professor in the Department of Medicine, Sol Sherry Thrombosis Research Center, at Temple University, the State University of New York at Buffalo/Albany, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Awarded the 2017 Kuwait Foundation for Advancement in Sciences (KFAS) Laureate for Applied Sciences in Medicine. Awarded in 2018 fellow of the National Academy of Inventors (FNAI), Awarded in 2020 the first Sheikh Zayed International Award in Traditional Complementary and Alternative Medicine (TCAM), in Prophetic Medicines for improved human health and quality of life. In 2020, Dr. Mousa ranked by Stanford ranking to be among the top 1% of globally impactful scientist. His current googles scholar citation over 35,000; h-index 100; and i10-Index 500. Among Dr Mousa’s professional accomplishments are his contributions to several patents and to the discovery and development of novel anti-platelet, anti-thrombotic therapies, noninvasive myocardial perfusion, and thrombus imaging agents. His work is reported in over 1,000 peer-reviewed publications and holds over 400 US Patents and International Patents. His early work in Neuropharmacology involved the biochemical and pharmacological interplay between hormonal and neuronal factors in pain modulation. He contributed to the discovery and development of FDA approved products / clinical candidates: CardioliteR, Roxifiban (Anti-platelet / Anti-thrombotic agent for the prevention and treatment of coronary, carotid, and peripheral artery thromboembolic disorders). Involved in the discovery of novel site directed anti-avb3 tumor radiotherapy and imaging. He is also involved in the discovery of novel pharmacological aspects of heparins and non- anticoagulant heparin derivatives. He contributed to the advancement of several key concepts including: the synergistic benefits of GPIIb/IIIa antagonists in combination with thrombolytic; the role of integrin alpha5/beta1 in angiogenesis and bacterial invasion of human host cells, the role of fibrinolytic components such as kininogen in angiogenesis. He established state of the art Pharmaceutical Research Institute focusing on translational research in Drug Discovery and Drug Development. The Institute utilizes various forms of enabling technologies ranging from biotechnology, nanotechnology, stem cells, drug design, high throughput screening, formulation, drug delivery, pharmacokinetic, Pharmacodynamic, and Pharmacogenomic. Dr Mousa received a Ph.D. in Pharmacology from Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, completed postdoctoral research in Cardiovascular Pharmacology at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Kentucky, and earned his MBA from Widener University in Chester, Pennsylvania. He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC), a Fellow of the National Academy of Clinical Biochemistry (FACB), a fellow of the American Heart Association (FAHA), and a fellow of the National Academy of Inventors (FNAI). He is a member of several national and international societies and serves on several NIH study sections, DOD, and other funding agencies. In addition, he is an Editor- in-Chief and serves on the editorial boards and reviewer for several high impact scientific and medical journals.

Dr. Richard J. Spontak is a Distinguished Professor of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering, Professor of Materials Science & Engineering, and Alumni Distinguished Graduate and Undergraduate Professor at North Carolina State University. He received his B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering (with honors/high distinction) from the Pennsylvania State University in 1983 and was later awarded the Ph.D. degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of California at Berkeley in 1988. He then pursued post-doctoral research in Materials Science & Metallurgy at the University of Cambridge (U.K.) and Condensed Matter Physics at the Institute for Energy Technology (Norway) before joining the Corporate Research Division of The Procter & Gamble Company in 1990. In 1992, he accepted a faculty position at North Carolina State University, where he supervises the Macromolecular Materials & Morphology Group. Since that time, Spontak has published over 300 peer-reviewed journal papers and over 35 scholarly works as book chapters and invited monographs, and his work has been featured on 31 journal covers and cited over 14,000 times according to Google Scholar (as of November 2021). Although active in a diverse range of disciplines, his primary research interests relate to the phase behavior and morphology/property development of nanostructured polymers, polymer nanocomposites and coatings, electron microscopy, and stimuli-responsive soft materials. In recognition of his fundamental and applied research endeavors, he is the recipient of numerous honors and awards such as the Alcoa Foundation Engineering Achievement and Distinguished Engineering Research Awards, Alexander von Humboldt and Tewkesbury fellowships, the North Carolina State University Alumni Outstanding Research and Global Engagement Awards, the 2006 American Chemical Society (PMSE Division) Cooperative Research Award in Polymer Science & Engineering, the 2007 German Society for Electron Microscopy Ernst Ruska Prize, the 2008 American Chemical Society (Rubber Division) Chemistry of Thermoplastic Elastomers Award, the 2011 Institute of Materials, Minerals, and Mining (IOM3) Colwyn Medal, the 2012 Norwegian University of Science & Technology Lars Onsager Medal, the 2015 Society of Plastics Engineers International Award, the 2021 Tau Beta Pi Distinguished Alumni Award, and the 2021 International Association of Advanced Materials Researcher of the Year Award. An elected fellow of the American Physical Society, IOM3, and the Royal Society of Chemistry, he is or has been on the editorial advisory board of more than 20 international journals and holds editorial positions on three of them. He has been recognized as a 2007 Outstanding Scholar Alumnus and a 2012 Alumni Fellow by the Pennsylvania State University, and he is a member of the Norwegian Academy of Technological Sciences and the North Carolina State University Research Leadership, Global Engagement and Outstanding Teaching Academies. Spontak is also a highly acclaimed educator and academic mentor. Likewise, he has co-directed two PhD theses in the field of Materials Science and Engineering and has participated and participates in R+D public financing research projects (Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation and Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness) in the field of the technology of polymer foams and multifunctional (nano)composites, and in R+D projects with plastics sector companies, such as ULMA Construction, Prysmian Cables and Systems, Imerys Talc or Tucai SA. He has also co-edited the Special Issues “Polymeric Foams” and “Polymeric Foams II” in the journal Polymers (MDPI) and is currently member of the “Reviewer Board” of this journal, and has also co-edited the Topical Collection “Application of Graphene-Based Materials” (MDPI). His researchis mainly focused on the preparation andcharacterization of multifunctional polymeric composite and nanocomposite foams,namely in the development of new rigid multifunctional foams based on thermoplastics combined with different types of nanosized reinforcements, especially carbon-based such as graphene-based materials and/or carbon nanotubes, to be used as lightweight components in sectors like construction, packaging, electronic, automotive or aerospace. Particular relevance has been given to the process-structure-properties relationships of these novel foams, focusing on the optimization of the variables involved in foaming using different foaming processes, the cellular structure and microstructure of the developed (nano)composite foams, and their added functionalities, such as improved mechanical performance, fire behaviour or thermal/electrical conductivities, or enhanced EMI shielding efficiency.

Lifeng Liu (Researcher ID: A-2522-2012, Orcid ID: 0000-0003-2732-7399) obtained his B. S. degree in Applied Physics from Beijing Jiaotong University (2001), and both his MS (2004) and PhD (2007) degrees in Condensed Matter Physics from the Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IOP-CAS) under the supervision of Prof. Sishen Xie (Academicians of CAS and TWAS). He joined Max Planck Institute of Microstructure Physics – Halle (MPI-Halle), Germany in 2007, first working as a postdoctoral researcher under the supervision of the late Prof. Ulrich Goesele and Dr. Woo Lee, and then as a member of scientific staff. He started his independent research career in 2008 and became the head of group “Porous Alumina” in 2009. In 2011, he moved to the International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory (INL) and set up a research group there. Lifeng has been actively working on nanomaterials and nanostructures since 2002, with particular emphases on fabrication and characterization of complex nanostructures, nano-magnetism, nanoscale solid-state reactions, ferroelectric nanostructures and nano-electrocatalysts. His present interest is mainly focused on nanomaterials for renewable energy generation, storage, and conversion. So far, he has authored/coauthored more than 120 peer-reviewed papers in major international journals, which have been collectively cited >3900 times, leading to an h-index of 38 (Web of Science, as of Apr. 2017; Google Scholar: citations >4900 times; h-index: 41). In addition, Lifeng has delivered ca. 30 oral presentations at different international conferences/workshops/universities including 1 plenary talk, 2 keynote speeches, and 11 invited talks. Besides, Lifeng has offered extensive professional services to the community. He actively serves as a reviewer for 60+ scientific journals such as Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., J. Am. Chem. Soc., Nature Commun., Energy Environ. Sci., Adv. Mater., ACS Nano, Adv. Funct. Mater., Small, Chem. Commun., etc., and for grant applications for several funding agencies from North America, Europe and Asia. He was a member of organizing/scientific committee of a number of national/international conferences. Since 2011, Lifeng has successfully secured internal and external research funds totaling over 1.2 million Euros. Honors and awards he got recently include: FCT Investigator Grant 2014, Young Researcher Award 2015 by the Portuguese Electrochemical Society, INL Award for Professional Services 2016, Prof. Ruldoph A Marcus Award 2017.

Mohamed Abdel Salam was born in Cairo, Egypt 1969, where he grow up and raised to love science. He joined one of the top universities in the region; Ain Shams University, Faculty of Science, by 1986 and decide to specialized in Chemistry as it fascinating his mind, heart and eyes. He obtained a Bachelor of Science (B. Sc.) degree in Chemistry by 1990 among the top list of the department. Salam was then chosen to join the National Research Centre in Egypt, where his research work focus on the industrial chemistry, and he obtained his first Master of Science degree (M. Sc.) by 1993, then he resigned and joined a Petroleum Company at the Egyptian desert where he learn the practical aspects of petroleum extraction and treatment as well as different methods for corrosion protection and monitoring. While working at the petroleum company, he was admitted for the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph. D) program at Ain Shams University where he obtained his first Ph. D. By 1998, he immigrated to Canada, and joined Carleton University at the Canadian capital, Ottawa, where he obtained his second M. Sc. by 2003 in the field of electroanalytical speciation, and his second Ph.D. by 2006 in the field of nanomaterials. Dr. Salam joined Health Canada after his graduation, and then he joined the chemistry department at the faculty of Science, King Abdulaziz University, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia by 2008. He is at present a professor of physical chemistry at chemistry department at the faculty of Science, King Abdulaziz University and his research interests focuses on the preparation of new nanomaterials and their potential applications for electrochemical application, environmental remediation, desalination, energy, polymer science, as well as their potential biological applications, and potential toxicity. Prof. Salam registered 4 US patents, authored and co-authored 135 research papers at well-known peer reviewed international journals. Prof. Salam among the editorial board of Scientific Reports, Chemical Papers, South African Journal of Chemical Engineering, where he really enjoyed his role as an editor (262 Verified Editor Records), and a frequent reviewers for many well-known scientific journals (287 Verified Peer Reviews). His h-index according to Google Scholar is 42, according to Scopus is 38, and according to the web of science is 38. Salam is married and blessed with a 23 years old boy (Omar), and three adorable daughters (Sarah, Sana, and Salma), as well as two lovely cats (Kobe, and Simba).
